Understand the Virtual Landscape

Before diving into a virtual horse show, take the time to familiarize yourself with our platform. Check out all the different pages, and familiarize yourself with all the terms and conditions, and rules and regulations. Ensure that you understand the submission process, video specifications, and any other guidelines specific to the virtual class you're entering.

Select the Right Classes

WRVHS offers a range of classes, from dressage and show jumping to barrel racing and pole bending. Carefully review the available classes and choose those that align with your and your horse's strengths. Consider entering a variety of classes to showcase your versatility as a rider, or to try something new!

Prepare Your Horse

Even in the virtual world, presentation matters. The judges appreciate clean turnout and proper healthcare for your horse. Groom your horse as if you were heading to a physical show. Ensure that your horse is well-fed, exercised, and in top condition. Clean tack, and a well-turned-out horse can make a positive impression on the judges.

Create a Quality Video

The video you submit is your chance to shine, so pay attention to the details. Choose a location that provides good visibility and showcases your horse's movement effectively. Make sure there is adequate lighting, and position the camera so that the judges can clearly see both you and your horse throughout the entire video. Check the video quality and sound to ensure a smooth viewing experience. Ensure you compress your video to meet the 15MB maximum for easy submission. See our Compress a Video Walkthrough for a step by step guide.

Follow the Guidelines

Each class will have specific guidelines and rules for entries, and it's crucial to adhere to them. Pay attention to details such as video duration, required layout/setup, and any specific instructions for each class. Failure to follow the guidelines may result in point deductions or disqualification.

Dress Appropriately

Even though you're not physically present, dressing appropriately adds a professional touch to your virtual presentation. Wear the appropriate attire for your chosen class, although show attire is not required, consider dressing as you would for an in-person competition.

Practice and Rehearse

Give yourself time to practice your class, even a week or two before you film the final video. the This will help you and your horse feel more comfortable and confident during the virtual performance. A smooth ride and a well-executed class are likely to impress the judges.

Submit Early

Avoid the last-minute rush by submitting your entry well before the deadline. Technical issues or unexpected challenges may arise, so submitting early provides a buffer for troubleshooting and ensures that you don't miss the entry deadline. WRVHS will also review videos before they are sent to the judges. If there are errors with video quality or something in your ride, submitting early will give you a chance to retake the video and resubmit before the entry deadline.

Participating in a virtual horse show is a fantastic way to engage with the equestrian community, receive valuable feedback, and challenge yourself and your horse. By following these tips, you'll be well-prepared to enter our virtual show with confidence, creating a memorable experience for both yourself and those enjoying your performance (if you choose to enter publicly with our community). Embrace the virtual platform, showcase your horsemanship skills, and, most importantly, have fun!!

Yours truly,

The Wild Rose Virtual Horse Show Team
